J_MAUL (born Jamaul Outlaw) is an American recording artist, record executive, beat-maker, audio-engineer, student athlete and film producer from Port Richmond, NY (Staten Island).
Early life and career
Outlaw got a pension for elite competition at a young age. As an AAU Basketball superstar he played alongside the likes of (former L.A. Lakers like) Smush Parker. Soon after an AAU National Championship had been earned, Outlaw was convinced to join a West-Coast Supergroup THE LUNCH TABLE GANG with his childhood friend Anthony Starr.
Once home from Los Angeles, Outlaw was quickly confronted realities of fame locally in Staten Island. Despite experiencing frequent harassment, incompetence, and ill will from borough police, J_MAUL remained undeterred. Outlaw instead established a recording base at his home in Port Richmond and founded a new record label, Chandelier Money Gang.
In 2011 Outlaw was introduced to Hit-A-Lik C.E.O. Charles Buko by the duo’s mutual friend, Spot Henchmen (King Day/Grand Hustle). After a chance meeting with Meek Mill’s business manager, Conan “Coon Philly” Howard, Outlaw and Buko began writing and recording songs toward Outlaw’s mixtape/album Chandelier Lifestyle.
One of the songs created during the Chandelier Lifestyle sessions was street anthem, “Rob A Bank” featuring Jadakiss, Termanology and Spot (Speez). Outlaw unveiled “Rob A Bank” in Chicago, IL at The Double Door on the Mobb Deep Reunion Tour to rave reviews from all, including Fredo Santana (GBE/Interscope). The song was also remixed by Grammy Nominated engineer, and producer M. Millionés (Hit-A-Lik/i am OTHER) and is slated for public release Summer 2014.
